Team Scooby Doo!

Mat and team have been flat out over the last few months building a budget endurance race car! Check it out:

Great job on the paint work Mathew Whitbread!

This green machine was built for Motor Events: Budget Endurance Racing for a Great Cause.

Created in 2019 by Ben McGuire, the Motor Events series aim was to fundraise for research into rare cancers and to help make a positive difference into people who have been affected by them. McGuire explained he had a very personal reason for setting up the category as his wife is terminally ill with a rare form of cancer with no known cure or treatment.

“My motivation for setting up Motor Events was to facilitate fundraising for research into rare cancers. Any sort of cancer is obviously awful, but having a type of cancer that is not well known or understood is extremely tough. Our aim is to make a positive difference to people in those sorts of situations.

“The best way to raise funds is to create an environment where people can have a lot of fun along the way, which is what we’re doing with Motor Events.”

To qualify for the Budget Endurance Racing, vehicles must have a redbook value of no more than $5000 and are then divided into classes based on their output in kilowatts, meaning cars with similar performance levels are racing one another.

The Mystery Machine!

Mathew Whitbread said "The idea of calling it Scooby Doo came from a lot of people calling the Suburu, Scooby Doo." He told the Yorke Peninsula Country Times that the team found inspiration watching the American NASCAR series and found a kind of style they thought would be perfect to grab peoples attention.

And we did just that by taking out the Old Uncle Moe's Hot Stuff Award in the Mallala 12 hour Endurance Series!

12 hours of non stop racing. Scooby, our trusty steed, didn’t miss a beat. Well done Mat, John, Stewart & Tyson, you all did a fantastic job navigating traffic, rain and puddles to bring Scooby home in one piece. Also Blake, who is not old enough to drive, did a fantastic job as crew chief. He was in constant communication with our drivers via radio comms, updating them on team refuelling and pit schedules. What a champ.
